Summary of the Web2.0 Experience

In doing this exercise I felt like I learned about a whole new world – a world of endless opportunities. At first I felt scared, a bit intimated – could an old dog like me learn about this whole new world. But I am so glad I was enticed, seduced, led to learn about this whole new way of communicating. I’m not going to say that I’m going to embrace wholeheartedly every single thing I was exposed to, but there are definitely some things in this bag that I am very happy to take on. Thanks for the push/shove into the 21st Century – this was an excellent idea. I will use Goggle docs, FaceBook, and LibraryThing to name just a few.

Craigslist

Pretty interesting stuff on there - it was also a good way to check out other areas for housing and jobs. I looked at the pets one, too, but I found that too depressing. Decided to check out apt prices in NYC. I found one in the area where my grandmother and her parents lived when they came over from Bohemia (Czechoslovakia)- Greenpoint.

Goggle Docs

This was remarkably easy. I did have more trouble creating a document than I did in uploading a current one and sharing it. I will definitely use this to keep a current list of my personal library.

Feeling a Little Lost in WikiLand

Wow, the further you go into the Wiki’s the more it keeps expanding in front of you. It’s easy to feel a little lost, but in a good way. I bookmarked the PALS Wiki as I found that very interesting. I really went exploring at the SJCPL Subject Guides – it was a lot of fun.

The WorldCat site didn’t work when I tried it but I have posted (and read) several reviews on Amazon. In fact I made a good friend through the book reviews at Amazon. I found the library success page very interesting – having worked in a rural community library many years ago I can see how helpful this would be.

I was disappointed when I went to the Princeton Public Library catalog and couldn’t find a book that had a patron review. I know that we have difficulty getting people to blog on our website, but maybe with the new webpage it will be more eye-catching.

Finding New Feeds

Okay, I think I really like this & RSS. I would definitely subscribe to our library's new DVDs since I never can remember when movies are coming out. I can't believe how much our catalog has evolved from card files, to dreaded microfiche to computer - it is fantastic.

One thing I did notice about one of the local blogs is that it hasn't been updated since the fall which made me decide not to subscribe to it at this time.

Library Thing

I love Library Thing – I can’t wait to put my collection on it. I like the tags, they’re more user-friendly, but I think in our catalogo entry for 7th Heaven the tags were very repetitious and often vague.

Delicious

I did look around delicious and put in my own bookmark. I definitely want to spend some time on this lesson. It would be nice to have all my bookmarks available anywhere.

Making Lists on Milennium

Library has 104 fans. It looks like Riverhead Free Library is also on Facebook.

Library MySpace Account
I particularly liked the Shelfari & the pictures.

I’m more familiar with Facebook since I have account with them. I find it very helpful especially with keeping in touch with friends in England.

The library can get itself out there to those who don’t enter our doors. Maybe I can use it to get more people to attend our monthly book discussions.
